Historical Tour
On Sept 14th Town Historian Rick Reynolds conducted a tour of lake related historical sites. 24 members visited the MacDonald brothers grave site, Buell Mansion where we viewed a tunnel possibly from the underground railroad, Episcopal church site of the Father Hogan boxing school, The Castle built by famous American painter William Bliss Baker, sites at Forest Park a resort in the early 1900's, and the Splain residence a former boat house to see the pontoons still remaining under the house which was dragged onshore by a team of horses one winter and Carney's Tavern. Despite having less daylight than interesting sights everone had a great time.
We hope to run another tour in Spring or Summer and probably focus on the Forst Park sites. If you missed this time we hope you can make the next tour.
